CD Release Concert at WICA - March 14th!!! Levi Burkle will be performing at Whidbey Island Center for the Arts (WICA) on March 14th. This will be a CD release concert, debuting the music from his new album entitled Maze! Get Tickets Now! Some of the musicians accompanying Levi will be… James Hinkley on cello, fiddle and keys, Rachman on drums, Stephan Ross on bass, David Licastro on guitar, Jasper Hayes on guitar and mandolin, Tommy Morgen-Burke on bass, Roger Bennett on percussion, Alec Buchanan on horns, and possibly more to come. The
songs from the Maze album come from songwriting
workshops that Levi conducted at various King County and Sno-Isle
Libraries, and also with some of his students. There are 15
tunes on this album, all of which are unique in style, instrumentation,
and production. “This was a completely experimental album,
a great opportunity for me to step out of my box,” says
Levi, “Working with different people is fun because everyone
brings something different to the table.” Sometimes people
would share thoughts or feelings, sometimes words, sometimes
phrases. By the end of the workshop, Levi would take the jumble
of madness and sculpt it into a song almost without any effort.
Then it was on to Levi’s personal recording studio to
lay down the tracks. Levi played almost all the instruments
on the album, from drums, bass and guitar, to harmonica and
keys and all the various sound effects that you hear. It is
really quite a remarkable album. The tunes are just damn good,
something you can feel comfortable connecting to, but different
enough to stay interesting.
